Tom Lake
Tom Lake
Tom Lake is here - and we’re so excited!
When did we last enjoy a book this much? (Looking at you, Bonnie Garmus!)
An advance typescript of Ann Patchett’s novel reached us a few months ago, and we enjoyed in hugely – so we are almost vibrating with excitement about its publication in August.
The tale revolves around actors; a cherry orchard; productions of Thornton Wilder’s play ‘Our Town’. It touches on mothers and daughters, on family responsibility and the desire to be a star – or not. Farming, Covid, love, lust, envy - there’s a lot packed in there.
But let’s not make it sound worthy. It is a joy to read, with characters rising fully formed in beautifully realized settings. Funny and charming, it is also profound and thoughtful - a novel with so much in it that we cannot wait to put it in your hands!
We’re developing a special presentation wrap for the book, of course - how could we not, when we love it so much?
Filled with the moments I live for in a story - careful, compelling insights into human nature, the most effortless humour, and the kind of vivid descriptions that reveal exactly how something is – Bonnie Garmus
