Susan Branch - an American author you’d know if you were, well, American – has produced a wonderful commonplace book filled with quotes collected over a lifetime reading.

We’re fans of commonplace books – we both keep one near one favourite reading chairs, so we can add quotes whenever we come across them.

Susan has produced a wonderful example of the genre – and, being Susan Branch, she has decorated the pages with a generous sprinkling of her illustrations. The colourful, charming decorations add a wonderful zest to the pages.

Susan has arranged the quotes into sections, ranging from ‘Creativity’ to ‘Books, Reading & Libraries’ and ‘Fairy Tales’. In her trademark script – legible but relaxed and spontaneous-looking – she has assembled a melange of quotes to make you smile, or stop a moment and savour a thought.

Thoughtfully, Susan adds some blank pages with decorative edging, so you can jot down some quotes of your own.
