Writing Maps
These portable and practical creative writing guides, created by author Shaun Levin, contain thought-provoking writing prompts to help you explore, expand, and experiment with your writing. They’re designed to make writing more fun, and are also very gorgeous to look at.
We have a wide range of these maps in the shop, and a smaller selection here. If there’s one you’d like that we don’t have online, just email us and we’ll get it to you! Use the dropdown menu to take your pick of our online offerings:
Taking Your Words for a Walk: Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s exuberant essay "Street Haunting," this map will provide you with writing activities and story suggestions as you explore and write about any city or town, real or imagined.
The Voice and Point of View Map: A practical guide to exploring your voice as a writer, as well as the voices and points of view in fiction and memoir you can choose from when you tell a story.
12 Doable Writing Projects: This Writing Map will inspire you to take on twelve manageable creative writing projects in a single year. Each one can be completed in a month. No more procrastinating! See how much you can achieve in a year.
Quiet Writing: These prompts will inspire you to bring greater awareness and daring to your writing life. Through writing about ourselves we increase our awareness of how our minds work, and so enhance our ability to create resonant fictional characters.
Write Around the Bookshop: Bookshops (we believe!) are a place for writers to find themselves and their voices. The exercises and little interventions in this map will encourage you to engage with books on the shelves and think about bookshops in your past.
Write by the Sea: Embark on a nautical adventure with these writing exercises and prompts about the sea, the seaside, swimming, sunbathing, fishing and sea monsters.
How to Write a Story: The writing prompts and suggestions in this map will inspire you to explore all aspects of a memorable and layered story: complex characters, clear settings, sharp dialogue, suspense and a rewarding ending. This one is particularly helpful for younger or beginner writers.
If you’re in need of a notebook to capture all your new writing enthusiasm, we have some charming ones we designed ourselves right here.
