23 August: Mapping for Kids with Artist Helen Cann and Author Alice Albinia
We’re inviting young artists and readers to help celebrate publication of artist Helen Cann and award-winning travel writer Alice Albinia’s new book Once Upon An Island : An Atlas of Islands From Around the World on Sunday 23 August.
In the course of an hour, Helen and Alice will share their love of islands, some of the amazing facts they learned, and lead an exercise in map drawing.
This is a special opportunity to introduce readers age 7 to 12 to the pleasures of drawing and making art as well the marvels of geography and history that Once Upon an Island celebrates.
The book features bite-size facts and features about islands, with brilliant graphics by Helen. The diverting two-page spreads are filled with colourful images that offer hours of entertainment and inspiration.
Everything needed will be provided, include paper, pencils and other tools to help young artists create their own island artwork.
Helen and Alice are offering two 1-hour sessions on Sunday 23 August, one running from 1 to 2pm and a second from 2 to 3pm.
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
The £16.99 session includes a copy of Once Upon an Island for participants to keep – and Helen and Alice will be signing them for their fans. (We won’t issue physical tickets, but will keep a guest list.)
The event will be held in the Barn at Much Ado.
Space is limited. Stop in to secure your place, or use this form - specifying which session you opt for when checking out.
