Exploring Collage

Workshop led by Sarah Holloway BA (Hons) PGCE

10.00am - 4pm, Saturday 21st October 2017, at Much Ado Books, Alfriston

Following the success of her previous collage workshops, Sarah is set to lead a further workshop for crafters interested in exploratory collage techniques.

Participants will enjoy a 10% discount on purchases at Much Ado that day!

This workshop will combine new techniques and methods with revisiting and building upon collage techniques explored in previous workshops, such as pre-prepared surfaces and coloured transfoils. There will also be a focus on incorporating found objects into your collage making. Autumn is a time for pressing leaves, as well as saving twigs and bark; so you may want to collect and preserve natural objects (including late summer flower heads) in advance of the workshop, or bring lightweight man-made objects of your choosing. All other materials will be provided. We use mixed media, including mainly handmade papers, card and print, as well as textures and objects from students' own collections. Adhesion techniques will include stitch and wire, as well as glue and Bondaweb (fusible webbing).

You may like to bring a poem or a favourite quote to include within your imagery. Much Ado Books will kindly be donating old books that can be cut up and used as part of the collage and there will be further suggestions for mixing, layering and combining text and imagery.

Some examples of collage by contemporary and historical artists will be available for extra inspiration.

New and previous participants are welcome, as you can take this course on board at whatever level you feel comfortable with. There will be plenty of time and space for creative focus, as well as to learn new skills or develop and practice skills already familiar to you.

We will experiment and have fun, exploring line, tone, colour, texture and shape; using our imagination to create unique & expressive collage pieces.

Sarah Holloway has been teaching Art & Design workshops and programmes for many years, working in a variety of venues.
